Summary
In June 2014, Clowns Without Borders Sweden went to Kenya to do a tour of shows and some psychological support. The overall goal of the project is to improve the living conditions for young mothers in Kenya, through entrepreneurship training and psychosocial support. The artists’ role is to strengthen the psychosocial health and to motivate and develop tools to increase self esteem, hope and joy. The focus of the tour was to generate a clown performance that would be a source of celebration for the mothers already engaged with Hand in Hand Kenya’s Free Your Mind program, as well as a promotional tool for regional offices to recruit more women. During the tour, the team performed for approximately 7500 young mothers, children and community members in Central, Eastern and Western Kenya.
